Survey of Podcast Usage in Japan #6

Otonal and The Asahi Shimbun Company have jointly conducted the “PODCAST REPORT IN JAPAN: Survey of Podcast Usage in Japan” since 2020 to better understand podcast usage in Japan and deepen understanding of podcast users. This year’s survey (the sixth in the series) was conducted from December 5 to December 6, 2025, targeting 10,000 men and women aged 15 to 69 across Japan. The English report summarizes podcast usage rates, listening behavior, usage methods, and comparisons with other media.

Summary of Survey Results

  • Japan’s podcast usage rate reached 18.2% (up 1.0 percentage point year-on-year).

  • Usage remains especially high among younger audiences, with 40.5% among those aged 15–19 and 28.8% among people in their 20s.

  • 76.2% of podcast users watch video podcasts at least once per month.

  • YouTube was the top platform for podcast listening, followed by Spotify.

  • More than 60% of users said they had searched for something mentioned in a podcast, and more than 50% said they had purchased a product or visited a place mentioned in a podcast.
